Onur Öymen, Nihat Ali Özcan and Ercan Çitlioğlu will make speeches on specific topics at Near East Institute

Terrorism, National and Regional Security and NATO’s Security Policies will be discussed at the Security Academy Certificate Program at Near East Institute.

According to press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the Security Academy Certificate Program, which was organized by Near East Institute within the scope of lifelong learning programs, has hosted very notable figures as keynote speakers since it was opened on March 5 by Cemil Çiçek, former President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Significant figures such as Prof. Dr. Ilter Turan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet K. Han and Ergün Olgun, who are key experts in the field of international relations and security, participated in the first two sessions of the program as speakers and shared their views regarding the issue. Onur Öymen, retired Ambassador and CHP former vice Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nihat Ali Özcan,TOBB University Faculty Member, and Ercan Çitlioğlu, Advisor of Near East Institute Strategic Studies Center, will be the speakers of the next session. Onur Öymen, one of the most significant figures of Turkish diplomacy, will give a seminar on “NATO’s Security Policies and Strategic Concept” at the Security Academy Certificate Program held by Near East Institute. Onur Öymen who is a Member of the IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) has been a Member of Parliament of National Assembly of Turkey, the Second Secretary of NATO Department, the First Secretary, Permanent Delegation to the Council of Europe, Chief of Section for Policy Planning Department, the Undersecretary at Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, Special Adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Head of the Policy Planning Department, Ambassador to Copenhagen and Bonn, the Under-secretary of the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Permanent NATO Representative of Turkey. Onur Öymen has written four books so far and one of his books has been translated into English and German.

Assoc. Prof.Dr. Nihat Ali Özcan, who is one of the leading key experts on terrorism, security and intelligence in Turkey and across the world, will be another significant guest of the program. Within the frame of the program, he will give a seminar on

“Security and Intelligence in the 21st Century” and discuss security policies and intelligence concept and applications within the context of changing, transforming and diversifying information resources and unusual threats.

Ercan Çitlioğlu, who is a key expert on terrorism and security, will be another significant guest of Near East Institute. Within the frame of the program, he will give a seminar titled as “Process Analysis and Intelligence”. Ercan Çitlioğlu, who is currently the Chief Advisor of Near East Institute Center for Strategic Studies, He was awarded with “Man of the Year” award in 1978. He has given many communiqués at international meetings and many of his interviews and studies have been broadcasted on national TV channels so far. His many scholar articles were published by peer-reviewed journals. His 17 books have been published so far.

The Security Academy Certificate Program will continue to host significant speakers with different topics with a special focus on security and its applications. The program will come to an end on May 21, 2016.
