Olympic stars will inspire at Near East University!

The pride of Turkish archery, Mete Gazoz, Ulaş Berkim Tümer and Muhammet Abdullah Yıldırmış and their coach Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin, who trained them for the outstanding achievements, will meet with Cyprus at the Near East University Grand Library on Wednesday, December 18 at 14:30!

The 2024 Summer Olympics held in Paris was a great milestone for Turkish sports history. After winning the championship at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Mete Gazoz, who became the World Champion in 2023 and the European Champion in 2024, and his teammates Ulaş Berkim Tümer and Muhammet Abdullah Yıldırmış won the first team medal in Turkish archery history with the bronze medal they won. The champion athletes, the source of pride for Turkish archery, will be coming to Cyprus on Wednesday, December 18th at 14:30 at the Near East University Grand Library to inspire them, along with their coach Yusuf Göktuğ Ergin, who tranined them for these great achievements.


Champions will inspire Cyprus!

The champions, who will come to Northern Cyprus with Abdullah Topaloğlu, the President of the Turkish Archery Federation, who also serves as a board member of the Turkish National Olympic Committee, will participate in the “Champions of a Century” talk organized in cooperation with the Near East University, Faculty of Sports Sciences, Coach Education Department and the TRNC Archery Federation. The event, which will be held on Wednesday, December 18th at 14:30 at the Near East University Grand Library, will be open to the participation of the entire public.

The top names of Turkish archery will inspire young people and sports fans by sharing the stories behind their victories in the international arena, their passion for archery and their experiences while representing the Turkish people.


Prof. Dr. Mehtap Tiryakioğlu: “We are honored to host our young athletes and their coaches who prepared them for these days at our university.”

Stating that Mete Gazoz, Ulaş Berkim Tümer and Muhammet Abdullah Yıldırmış managed to write their names among the legends of Turkish sports at a young age with their achievements, Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Mehtap Tiryakioğlu said, “We are honored to host our young athletes and their coaches who prepared them for these days at our university.” Stating that the success of our champion athletes will increase the interest in archery in our country and ensure the emergence of new talents in this field, Prof. Dr. Tiryakioğlu said, “We wholeheartedly believe that the ‘Champions of a Century’ talk we organized at our university will inspire our youth to reach their goals and increase awareness of archery.”

Prof. Dr. Tiryakioğlu thanked the TRNC Archery Federation for providing the opportunity for this inspiring meeting, the President of the Turkish Archery Federation Abdullah Topaloğlu and the Head of the Coach Education Department of the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Erdağ for their contributions to this event, and said, “I hope that this meeting, which will open new horizons for our youth in the light of sports and success stories, will turn into an unforgettable experience for all participants.”
