Obesity surgery risk rate is same as a simple gallbladder or appendicitis surgery risk rate!

Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen made statements about obesity surgeries that caused discussions in the country's agenda recently on reverberation and reliability of of such kind of operations.
Noting that the risk rate in obesity surgery varies between 2 per thousand and 4 per thousand. Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen said that this rate also applies to a simple gallbladder and appendicitis surgery. Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen added that patients will not face such sad results that are reflected in the press provided that an experienced physician and a fully equipped operating room and a hospital with intensive care are preferred.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen; "Nearly 100 obesity and diabetes surgery was performed in the last year at the Near East University Hospital."
“When obesity surgeries are carried out by specialist physicians in centers with fully equipped operating rooms and intensive care units, it opens the doors to a healthy life for patients. In our hospital, nearly 100 obesity and diabetes surgeries were performed in the last year. After these successful operations without any complications, all of our patients were discharged in a healthy way.” Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen said that all surgeries performed under general anesthesia contain certain risks, and the risk rate valid for obesity surgery varies between 2 and 4 per thousand for a simple gallbladder and appendicitis surgery.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen continued as follows regarding the risks that may be encountered in obesity surgeries; “The risks that apply to all intra-abdominal surgeries are also valid for obesity surgeries, and risks related to anesthesia, shortness of breath, infection, clot formation, vascular occlusion, bleeding and leaks can be seen in such surgeries. However, it should be known that the risk rate of obesity surgery to be performed by experienced physicians is the same as the gallbladder and appendicitis surgeries, which are among the most common surgeries today."

"Obesity, which has increased rapidly in recent years due to unhealthy nutrition, sedentary life, widespread technology and genetic factors, is the biggest cause of all diseases."

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen stated that obesity is considered a disease that negatively affects both quality of life and duration in patients with a body mass index of 40 and above. Noting that obesity brings with it many health problems, Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen said that among these, some of the life-threatening diseases due to high blood pressure can be considered, including some heart diseases and diabetes, fatty liver, shortness of breath, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, digestive system disorders and some joint disorders.

Reminding that obesity can cause psychological problems as it negatively affects social life, Prof. Dr. Yenen added that it is necessary to make a decision by looking at the benefit-loss balance in obesity surgeries for all these reasons.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen; "Obesity surgery can be performed in patients who cannot get results from non-surgical slimming methods."
Prof. Yenen stating that the surgery option can be considered in patients who have not been successful despite receiving expert assistance by the programs among the non-surgical slimming methods, diet, exercise, etc. Prf. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen pointed out that the body mass index and the presence of concomitant chronic diseases should be taken into consideration before the decision of obesity surgery.
