NEU Lifelong Education Center Greek and Russian language courses begin on February 8, 2016

The Lifelong Education Center of Near East University is continuing to offer new, high quality and social benefit oriented programs to respond to the diverse lifelong learning needs of the people from all parts of the society. Within this scope, Greek and Russian language programs will begin on February 8, 2016 under the execution of Dr. Şevki Kıralp; lecturer at the Faculty of Economic-Administrative Sciences.

According to the press statement issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of NEU, (Near East University Nicosia, Cyprus), the Lifelong Education Center, which has provided hundreds of participants with a variety of short-term education programs so far, rolled up its sleeves to offer Greek and Russian language programs. The programs cover both theoretical and practical training applications covering the teaching of the alphabet, basic principles of language, reading, writing and understanding techniques.

Delivering information regarding the short-term Greek language education program, Dr. Kıralp stated that they had prepared the program through a meticulous and detailed study to address the needs of the beginners. He noted that basic knowledge of Greek language and grammar as well as daily practical speaking would be taught to participants at the beginner level this year.

Delivering an explanation about the courses, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Koldaş, Director of Near East Institute and Lifelong Education Center, stated that Greek language education program, which would be executed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Şevki Kıralp, would provide the participants with opportunity to understand and express the world with a different language and perspective. Touching upon the increasing interest in learning Russian and Greek languages at a time when the relations between Russia, Greece and Greek Cypriot Community gained dynamism, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Koldaş stated that students and professionals coming from different countries and living in Cyprus, as well as those, who want to use these languages in their economic and social relations with Russia, Southern Cyprus and Greece, showed interest in the courses. Underlining that they had also organized short term language certificate programs on Ottoman, Italian, Arabic, German, and French and Turkish for foreigners so far, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koldaş voiced his pleasure of receiving the intense interest of Turkish Cypriots and the citizens of other countries that living on the island.
