NEU Islanders, the robotic soccer team of the Near East University, will compete in the World RoboCup for the 6th time

Developed by the Near East University Robotics laboratory, NEUIslanders robotic soccer team will participate in the World RoboCup 2017 that will be held in Nagoya-Japan.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, NEUIslanders team has passed the pre-selection successfully and deemed eligible to participate in the world RoboCup Challenge for the sixth time.

According to the press release, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, which are among the world’s prestigious universities, couldn’t compete in the RoboCup Japan 2017as they failed in meeting the pre-selection requirements. NEUIslander, Robotic Soccer Team of the Near East University, is the only Turkish soccer team that will compete in RoboCup 2017 as no robotic soccer team from Turkey will participate in the RoboCup 2017 in Japan.

NEUIslanders robotic soccer team aims to achieve to be amongst the top six in the World RoboCup, which is the leading and largest competition for intelligent robots, and one of the world's most important technology events in research and training that will be held in Nagoya, Japan from 25 to 31July 2017.

Starting on July 25, NEUIslanders will compete with the robotic soccer teams from America, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, China, Mexico, Chile, India, Pakistan and Iran. In this outstanding event, NEUIslanders will wave the flag of TRNC and represent our country proudly in Japan.

The mechanical parts and electronic circuits of the NEUIslanders soccer team robots, which were developed as the third generation robots, were designed and manufactured in the Near East University Robotics Laboratory.

NEUIslanders last ranked the 3rd place in RoboCup European Tournament 2016

NEUIslanders has participated in all RoboCup Championships that held annually since 2012. Prior to RoboCup in Leipzig, Germany, NEUIslanders last took the soccer pitch and achieved the third rank in RoboCup European Tournament 2016 that held in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Up to now, NEUIslanders has waved the flag of TRNC proudly in Mexico, Brazil, China, the Netherlands and Germany. This time, NEUIslanders will wave the flag of TRNC in Japan and represent our country proudly.
