Near East University is at Turkish World Documentary Film Festival

Near East University will be representing the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the Turkish World Documentary Film Festival, which is organised by Turkic World Journalists Federation.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, this year the Turkish World 3rd International Documentary Film Festival will be held to which a total of 7 Turkic countries are to participate. Furthermore, Near East University is proud to represent the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with its slogan as “7countries 8 cities 1 festival”. Moreover, due to the festival framework, Near East University signed a cooperation festival with the Turkic World Journalists Federation.

It was stated that the Honorary Board of the Festival included university rectors from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan and Turkey; alongside General President of the TDBB Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Assoc. Prof Dr. İrfan Günsel.
Head of Centre of Excellence of Near East University Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı and Head of NEU Department of Radio, TV and Cinema, Assoc Prof Dr. Fevzi Kasap will be a part of the Executive Board of the Festival.

The Documentary Film Festival is a platform that brings Turkic countries from different locations around d the world together and the programme of the festival includes: “Colleague Meeting, Documentary Worksop, Screening and Turkish World 2nd Cinema seminar, Turkic World Festival Gala and Award Ceremony”. Additionally, films of well known figures, alongside the documentary films to receive awards will all be screened at Turkic countries. Moreover, discussions will be held with well-known figures and workshops will be held during the festival.

Joint documentary formed with shootings in 7 different countries…
It was revealed that as part of the festival, a joint documentary will be recorded with the images shot at 7 different countries. As part of the “Turkish Mother” project, the seven different countries will offer the opportunity to get to know its unique woman and mother figures.

In this regard, it was expressed that the Turkish Cypriot mother will be filmed by the Department of Radio, TV and Cinema of Faculty of Communication of Near East University. The Consultant of the Project is stated to be Head of Department, Assoc. Prof Dr Fevzi Kasap, and the Project Executive will be Academic Member and Doctorate student Zeyde Y. Örek and Ömer Evre. The Turkish World International Documentary Films Festival also provides each country the opportunity to fiction and film its independent film.

A film competition held within the framework of the Festival…
It was pointed out that the Festival made a start with participants from 7 different countries, 8 cities 1 Festival; where the documentary films of Turkic countries will compete in a competition. In fact, registration to the Festival is to continue until the end of August 20th and Assoc Prof Dr Fevzi Kasap will be a part of the jury. Furthermore, it was announced that the documentary films which receive awards will be screened in different countries and cities with the attendance of President of the Turkic World Journalists Federation, Menderes Demir.
