NEU BESYO Students Get To Athletics Track With Children Suffering From Leukemia

Students of NEU Physical Training and Sports High School, Vahap Demirel, Ekrem Kurnaz, Ufuk Kanan and İzzet Çilingiroğlu got to the athletics track with children suffering from leukemia within scope of the project of "Breaking the Barriers" in benefit of Kemal Saraçoğlu Children With Leukemia And Fight With Cancer Foundation.

Prof. Dr. Şahin Ahmedov, lecturer in charge of the project, spoke to the Press and Public Relations Directorate of NEU and stated that the project was an activity conducted by volunteer students within the scope of the course content of Serving to Society which is a course of Autumn Term of fourth year. The students who carried out the project of "Breaking the Barriers" first got in touch with the Kemal Saraçoğlu Children With Leukemia Foundation and Fight With Cancer. The BESYO students planned to engage children with leukemia within a realistic athletics event in athletics track in order to make them experience a different, exciting activity. For the event, necessary permissions were obtained from the Athletics Federation, necessary preparations were made, materials were supplied, and on a day during which the children were out of the hospital and free from their treatment process, they were taken to the athletics field of Ataturk Stadium. Students were introduced with the branches of athletics and then in a game mood, races organized in "long jumping, sprinting, relay, and ball throwing" branches. At the end of the races, children were awarded with medals in accordance with their success in the races.
