Near East University will represent TRNC at the 8th Turkish World Documentary Film Festival and competition, where 152 films from 15 countries will be involved

Near East University will represent the TRNC at the “Turkish World Documentary Film Festival” and “Documentary Film Competition” organized by the Turkish World Journalists Federation, in which 9 universities from Turkey, TRNC, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Macedonia and Uzbekistan will take part as stakeholders.

At the festival organized with the main theme of ‘Turkish culture and Turks’ view of the world’, participants will also be able to focus on a free theme. This year, the festival will be held in the Long Documentary Film, Short Documentary Film and Student Documentary Film categories.

At the “Turkish World Documentary Film Festival”, which will be held for the 8th time this year with the slogan “Unity in Language, 9 Countries, 9 Cities, 1 Festival”, Near East University Rector Prof. Tamer Şanlıdağ takes place on the honorary board and Near East University Faculty of Communication, Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap serves on the executive board of the festival and the main jury of the professional category. Also at the festival, Near East University Faculty of Communication lecturers Dr. Serkan Fundalar and Zeyde Yalıner Örek also take place in the main jury of the “Student Documentary Film” category.

152 films were eligible to be evaluated
Out of over a thousand applications from Afghanistan, Germany, America, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tuwazistan, England, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, TRNC, Uzbekistan, Kosovo and Turkey, 152 films were found to meet the required terms and specifications and found to be eligible to take part in the contest. The award-winning documentaries will be determined as a result of the professional jury evaluation to be held between 19-23 October and will be screened at a gala to be held on TRT Ankara Television on 23 October.

The Turkish World Documentary Film Festival, organized to support documentary filmmakers from all over the Turkish geography, to contribute to the development and spread of the documentary genre, and to ensure that various and high-quality documentaries meet the audience, aims to create a platform where documentary filmmakers from the Turkish World will meet and exchange ideas in the long term.
