  • Near East University Robotic Soccer Team Received the Appreciations and Congrats of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay....

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: "Near East University Continues Moving forward with Great Breakthroughs to Create the Future in Present. Fabricating Tissues and Organs by Using Our Own Bioprinter is among Our Next Goals.
  • Along with Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, the team in charge of NEUIslanders, the robotic soccer team of Near East University, which became the champion in RoboCup 2018 (Robotic Soccer World Cup) that held in Montreal in Canada, paid a visit to the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Kudret Özersay in his office.

During the visit, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel and the accompanying team provided the Minister Özersay with information regarding the path leading to success of the robotic soccer team which was mechanically and electronically designed and created in the Near East University 3D Laboratory by Near East University R&D team that developed 100% of the artificial intelligence coding. During the visit, it was also underlined that Near East University's 2050 mission was to field a robotic soccer team for a friendly game against FIBA Human World Cup Champion. The Minister Özersay was also provided with information about NEU's progressive mission regarding producing human tissues and organs via the bioprinter that produced by Near East University.

Minister Kudret Özersay: "In order to access to the world as a country, state support must be provided for activities such as Arts, Science and Technology that Know no Boundaries"
In his remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Kudret Özersay expressed his appreciation to the visiting delegation as they made the country proud by winning the world championship.

Expressing that robots are revolutionizing the field of science and technology of the new era, Minister Özersay stated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus would make its name known across the globe with extraordinary artistic, scientific and technological activities to be held in our country. He also underlined that state support was essential for such activities. “How happy we would be, if we could provide a contribution that could open the way for these activities in the sense of politics and management with something like Silicon Valley in America. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not in a position and status to be able to reach the world and make itself understood with conventional methods. To me, we can be a part of the world much easily regardless being recognized or not by using unconventional methods, products and activities such as arts, science and technology that know no boundaries. We will be delighted if we are able to provide contributions to open your way for these works that seem to be very distant to us but have become part of life from other aspects. Now, there is research and development law. The state should do whatever it takes to motivate and encourage these works that know no boundaries. I congratulate all of you once again" said he.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: "By Producing Tissues and Organs via Bioprinter, we will continue to be a Model for 3rd Generation Universities..."
In his remarks, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel expressed their pride of becoming the champ of RoboCup 2018 that held in Montreal, Canada.

Highlighting that the world championship of the robotic soccer team of Near East University was one of the best examples of actualizing Near East University's vision of taking place amongst the third generation universities, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel stated that their goal was to make the name of Turkish Cypriots known in the world's health sector by producing human tissues and organs via bioprinter. "3D Bioprinting of human tissues and organs will revolutionize the field of tissue engineering and thus, the future of medicine. We believe we can create this future through our innovative studies" said he.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “We target the Bioprinting of Tissues and Organs Like Skin, Cartilage and Bone by using the Bioprinter that we developed...."
Underlining that works on bioprinting tissue and organs were ongoing at Near East University R&D laboratories, Associate Professor Günsel delivered information about the bioprinting procedure: "Our R&D team have designed and created the Bioprinter in our 3D laboratory. The constructed bioprinting operating system allows the user to orchestrate the intricate process of building human tissues and organs. Cell-ink makes it possible to 3D print human tissues and organs. Bioprinting will have a profound effect on the future of medicine. In virtue of the Bioprinter, we will produce live cells in micron precision with the help of a syringe. It continues as the co-study of NEU 3D laboratory and Near East University Hospital. Bioprinting tests with cell-ink are currently ongoing in our laboratory and we are very satisfied with the results acquired so far. Towards the end of this year, we will have realized bioprinting tissue. Bioprinting tissue and organs like skin, cartilage and bone is among our goals.

Our winning the Robotic Soccer Championship is a clear indicator that Near East University can compete with the world giants in the field of technology. This propels our enthusiasm for sustaining our innovative works in this field and it also demonstrates once again what Turkish Cypriots are capable to achieve when provided with opportunity. Near East University is the leading-gear of our country in innovation. We are moving towards creating the future with great breakthroughs. Our next step is to fabricate human tissue and organs via the Bioprinter created in our labs and make a profound effect in the field of medicine" noted he.

Soccer Robots of NEUIslanders and Their Artificial Intelligence have been created in Near East University Research Laboratories...
Near East University Robotic Soccer Team Captain Ersin Aytaç provided the Minister Kudret Özersay with technical information about the robots: "100% of mechanical and electronic designs and artificial intelligence of NEUIslanders, which consists of 8 robots, have been created and developed by R&D team in the research laboratories of Near East University. Shortly, 100% of NEUIslanders is the own production of Near East University. Each of the football robots was hand-crafted with a special technology. Robots are managed by a three-dimensional coordination and communication system. This year, electrical and electronics engineers and computer engineers worked together and produced a more offensive robotic soccer team by writing the team's artificial intelligence from scratch" said he.
