Near East University will host the project, which will be implemented in cooperation with five universities with the support of TÜBİTAK 1001!

The project, titled “Acculturation on the Island of Cyprus and Determination of the Influence of Turkey: Local Economic Relations, Cultural Economy, Consumption and Ritual Consumption” and be implemented in cooperation with Ege University, Manisa Celal Bayar University, Erciyes University, Istanbul Beykent University and Near East University, with the support of TUBITAK-1001, will be hosted by Near East University.

The “Acculturation on the Island of Cyprus and Determination of the Influence of Turkey: Local Economic Relations, Cultural Economy, Consumption and Ritual Consumption” project, which will trace the cultural, social and economic ties between the motherland Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, will be carried out by the academics from Ege University, Manisa Celal Bayar University, Erciyes University and Near East University. The Cyprus leg of the project, which is also entitled to receive the TUBITAK 1001 support, will be hosted by Near East University.

TÜBİTAK 1001 Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program supports projects that comply with scientific principles to produce new information, make scientific interpretations or solve technological problems.

Scientists will conduct field study in the TRNC
Within the scope of the TÜBİTAK-1001 supported project, supervised by Head of Near East University Social Research and Development Center Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay Gazi and Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Social Work, Assist. Prof. Dr. Menil Çelebi, academics from universities in Turkey will come to the TRNC between 11-21 November 2023 to conduct the field study.

The research team of the project, which will be conducted under supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Üstündağlı Erten from Ege University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Business Administration, consists of Burcu Şentürk Yıldız from Ege University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Business Administration; Prof. Dr. Siret Hürsoy from Ege University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Gönüllü Atakan from Manisa Celal Bayar University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Sociology; Dr. Pınar Karababa Demircan from Istanbul Beykent University; and Research Assistant Dr. Saim Örnek from Erciyes University Turkish Folklore Department.

Reminding that the efforts to open all TUBITAK project calls to the TRNC universities and researchers have reached the final stage, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “This initiative, which will strengthen the scientific cooperation between the universities of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, will create very important scientific outputs.”

The research projects we undertake or our researchers are a part of are entitled to receive the support of esteemed institutions such as TÜSEB and TÜBİTAK. While emphasizing the quality of the scientific projects carried out by our university’s academics, this also leads to a great driving force that will increase our scientific productivity.”
