Near East University was listed as the third best university in Turkey in The Times Higher Education’s “World University Rankings 2024” list, which included NEU as the best university in TRNC

London-based The Times Higher Education (THE), the world’s most influential higher education rating agency, announced the highly anticipated “World University Rankings 2024”. Near East University, the most preferred university of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was listed as the best university in the TRNC, ranking in the 601-800 band in the list of the world’s best universities.

With this ranking announced by The Times Higher Education, Near East University shared the title of “third best university” among Turkish universities. Near East University was included in the 601-800 band along with Bilkent, Boğaziçi, Çankaya and Hacettepe universities from Turkey. In the research, Istanbul Technical University was in the 501-600 band, and Koç, Sabancı and Middle East Technical Universities were in the 351-450 band.


The methodology has been renewed, the number of universities included in the research has increased!
The Times Higher Education made significant changes in the methodology of the “World University Rankings 2024”, which it published for the 20th time this year. The Times Higher Education increased the number of performance indicators used in its list of universities around the world from 13 to 18, and grouped these indicators into five main groups, as in the previous version. These criteria, collected under the main headings of Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook and Industry, are Education Reputation, Student-Academic Ratio, PhD-Bachelor Ratio, PhD-Academic Ratio, Institutional Income, Research Reputation, Research Income, Research Productivity, Citation Impact, Research Power, Research Excellence, Research Impact, International Students, International Staff, International Co-Authorship, Overseas Studies, Industrial Earnings and Patents.

Another notable change in the World University Rankings 2024 was the increase in the number of universities included in the research. While 1,799 universities from 104 countries were included in last year’s list, this year 1904 of 2,673 universities from 127 countries that met the application criteria were included in the ranking.

Making a statement regarding Near East University’s place in the World University Rankings 2024 list announced by The Times Higher Education, Near East Enterprises Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “As Near East University, our position in this prestigious ranking is a source of great pride for us. The fact that we rank first in the TRNC and take the third place in Turkey in the ranking of the best universities is an indication of our university’s high standards in education and research.”

Describing Near East University’s position in the World University Rankings 2024 list announced by The Times Higher Education as “a result of its devoted efforts in scientific research and education quality and international cooperation”, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “As Near East University, we will continue to work hard to make this success sustainable and move it even further.”
