Near East University students won the first prize in the International Architectural Idea Project, in which 32 universities competed with 73 projects

Near East University Faculty of Architecture students received the first prize in the "Zt Awards: Memory Interval" International Architectural Idea Project Student Competition, which was held for the second time this year in memory of Ziya Tanalı by the Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects Union (CTEAU) and Kyrenia Municipality.

In the competition to which students of graduate and undergraduate architecture departments of 32 universities from TRNC and Turkey attended with 73 projects, Near East University Faculty of Architecture students Mustafa Ahmed Gaber and John Ifeanyi Ugwulebo won the first prize with their project titled "Transparent Ruins".

In the "Zt Awards: Memory Space" International Architectural Idea Project Student Competition, which includes a total of 73 projects, the participants were asked to design the city walls of Kyrenia Castle, which has survived until today, to create and bring together the potentials to establish and bring together today's life. While designing the relationship of the wall with the city, the competitors were expected to go beyond physical requirements and convey mental and spiritual needs.

Architecture students Mustafa Ahmet Gaber and John Ifeanyi Ugwulebo, with the transparent staircase they designed in their project named “Transparent Ruins”, created a design that aims to add the historical walls of the Kyrenia Castle to daily life without closing them.

Congratulating the students who won the first place among 73 projects from 32 different universities, Near East University Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. Zeynep Onur said that participating in architectural project competitions during school years is very important professionally as it develops self-confidence for original experiments after starting professional life.

Prof. Dr. Zeynep Onur, "Zt Awards are given by Turkish Cypriot Architects-Engineers Chamber in demand of the Tanalı Family after the death of Architect M. Ziya Tanalı in 2018, who was awarded the Sinan Award (lifetime award) in 2008 by Turkey Chamber of Architects. We encourage our students to participate in these competitions throughout their architectural education. The achievements of our students generate encouraging feedback. I congratulate our students for this great success."

Winning the first place in the Ziya Tanalı International Student Competition, Mustafa Ahmet Gaber and John Ifeanyi Ugwuleb thanked their lecturers, friends and families at the Faculty of Architecture of Near East University for their guidance in the competition.
