Near East University Students visited Famagusta and Varosha

Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Social Studies Teaching Department students and lecturers visited Varosha, which is now open to tourism, and some of the historical monuments in Famagusta district. The students, who came from Turkey and abroad, showed great interest in the excursion, which was arranged to raise awareness about the cultural values and history of the TRNC.

As part of excursion program, students visited Varosha, some of which were opened to tourism, and also visited Famagusta Venetian Palace, Namık Kemal Dungeon, Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque and St.Barnabas Archeology and Icon Museum. At the excursion, students had the chance to see various artifacts from the Roman, Venetian and Ottoman periods of Cyprus.

Assoc. Dr. Mert Baştaş: “Our excursion program, which we organized to raise awareness about the history and culture of Northern Cyprus, will continue with the Kyrenia region.”
Stating that they will continue their trips to raise awareness of the history and culture of Northern Cyprus and the island of Cyprus for students coming from Turkey and abroad, Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Social Studies Teaching Department Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mert Baştaş said, “Our students who came to our island for higher education had the opportunity to learn about the culture, history and political background of Cyprus”. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mert Baştaş said that the second stop of the excursions that will continue will be the historical monuments located on the borders of Kyrenia.
