Near East University Students visited Europe Direct (EDIC) Initiative

Students studying at the Department of European Union Relations and the Department of Economics of Near East University visited the Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC), which is housed at the Home for Cooperation in Ledra Palace UN Buffer Zone area.

20 students, along with faculty members, participated in the visit to Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC), which is an initiative supported by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus and administered by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) as of February 2015.

According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, three distinctive presentations on "Activities of the European Commission" were presented to the students within the scope of the event. Each student that participated in the event was given "Participation Certificate" by EDIC.


The important role of bi-communal or multi-communal projects in ensuring communities living in peace was addressed....
The presentations emphasized the key role of bi-communal and multi-communal civil society projects in providing contribution to communities to live in peace in Cyprus and throughout Europe in general. It was also mentioned how young people could take place in civil society. The crucial role of civil society projects that conducted in various fields such as education, music, art, and sports as well as the contribution of these projects to the social and economic development of Turkish Cypriot Community was also discussed. Students also had opportunity to get to know the Home for Cooperation and get an idea about the fields that they could be active and effective for social development.

The activity that designed as an information event on European Union enabled both students and faculty members to mix socially with others, interact and exchange ideas.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özdeşer, Head of the Department of Economics, Vice Chairperson Assoc. Prof. Dr. Behiye Çavuş, European Union Relations Program Coordinator Dizem Ertaç Varoğlu and Faculty Members Arash Sharghi and Ayşem Çelebi accompanied the students during the event.
