Near East University Students Spent the Summer Interning in 21 Countries

34 students from Near East University’s Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy completed international internships in 21 countries throughout the summer, developing their professional skills and engaging with diverse cultures.
34 students from Near East University’s Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy gained rich scientific and cultural experiences in 21 different countries throughout the summer as part of international internship and research exchange programs.

The students had the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the healthcare field in countries such as Denmark, Poland, Finland, Portugal, Tunisia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Egypt, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Romania, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Bulgaria, Lebanon, and Ghana.

Nineteen Near East University students completed their internships and research and returned home in July. Fifteen students will continue their internships abroad throughout August.

Part of the International Education Network
Student associations established by students in the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine at Near East University form an important part of the international education network, with membership in the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), the International Pharmacy Students’ Federation (IPSF), the International Association of Dental Students (IADS), and the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA).

Near East University hosts students from many countries in Cyprus as part of the internship and exchange programs run by its student associations to strengthen international educational mobility, while also sending its own students worldwide for internships and research. Over the summer, Near East University hosted over 60 students from over 30 countries on campus and sent students to 21 countries for internship and exchange programs.

In various countries around the world, Near East students gain experience in a wide range of specialties, including Pulmonary Medicine, Cardiology, Hematology, as well as Pediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Brain and Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Radiology, Genetics, and Neurology, further developing their clinical knowledge and skills.

Near East University Dean of Students Prof. Dr. Dudu Özkum Yavuz emphasized that international internship programs contribute significantly to students’ development, not only professionally but also culturally and personally. She said, “Our students, who work in the healthcare field in different countries and blend their knowledge with universal practices, experience a multifaceted learning process.”

Prof. Dr. Özkum Yavuz said, “As Near East University, our goal is not only to equip our students with academic knowledge, but also to train them as responsible health professionals who can think globally, have strong communication skills.”
