Near East University Societal Research and Development Center organizes a seminar regarding child and family education

With an inspirational approach to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights and to spark dialogues and actions towards building a better world for children, Near East University Societal Research and Development Center organized a seminar titled "Child and Family Education" within the scope of the World Children’s Day that marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on the rights of the child.

According to the press release from the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the seminar, which was held at NEU Educational Palace, played a significant role in promoting children's right and underlining the importance of child and family education regarding the issue. It was stated that Associate Professor Yağmur Çerkez and Expert Barış Başel, Board members of the Societal Research and Development Center, provided the participants with detailed information about the child and family education and talked about concrete projects that conducted so far. They also made suggestions concerning what to do about the children's rights.

Highlighting that knowing the child well and raising individuals, who are aware of their rights and responsibilities, played a major role in social transformation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yağmur Çerkez stated that inter parental conflicts would result in emotional and behavioral problems in children. In this regard, she underlined the importance of developing strategies in inter family communication to address the resolution of the conflicts. Grounding on concrete cases experienced in the society, Expert Bariş Başel made suggestions for realizing the social transformation regarding gender and values.

Social awareness should be created via scientific projects…
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Professor Zehra Altınay, Co-Chairperson of the Societal Research and Development Center, addressed the significant role of universities in disseminating social responsibility awareness and underlined that the Center played a leading role in social projects and seminars aimed at raising awareness and creating an accessible and inclusive society for children, for women and for persons with disabilities.

Stating that only drawing attention to the issue was not enough; Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay underlined the importance of scientific basis and project designing in ensuring social transformation. She also highlighted that Societal Research and Development Center attached great importance on the issue and organized many panels, conferences, seminars within her annual activities.

Prof. Dr. Altınay stated that within the scope of its annual activities, the Societal Research and Development Center would continue to organize seminars and conferences. She noted that seminars titled "Sensitivity Training", "Entrepreneurship and Innovation" and "Awareness for Public Institutions and Organizations" as well as the conferences titled "New Generation Child: Digital Leaders" and "Accessible Tourism and Health" had been well designed to provide platform to discuss the issues through panels on "Woman and Society", "Social Research", "Woman and Transformation" and "Accessible Society".

Emphasize should be laid on family education and social awareness...
In her closing remarks, Professor Fahriye Altınay, Co-Chairperson of the Societal Research and Development Center, thanked all the participants for their attendance and laid emphasize on the importance of family education and social awareness in building up a better future for our children as they are the future of the society. She underlined that a special focus should be attached on disseminating family education and social awareness while building up the future. Highlighting the importance of an accessible and inclusive society in embracing all people regardless their disabilities and in enabling them to benefit equally from all educational, social, employment and health opportunities, Professor Fahriye Altınay stated that persons and children with disabilities should not be otherized and should be provided with equal living conditions within the framework of universal values and human rights.
