Near East University Science Awards will find their owners at the ceremony to be held on June 20

Near East University Science Awards, which are given every year by the Near East University to support scientific productivity, will be presented at the ceremony to be held at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center on 20 June with the participation of many guests, and President Ersin Tatar. Awards that could not be given last year due to pandemic conditions will also be given to their owners this year.

Dr. Suat Günsel Science Award will be given for the first time
Amongst the Near East University Science Awards, which will be given for the fifth time this year, in addition to the Publication Award, Publication Honorary Award, Young Researcher Award and Young Researcher Encouragement Award, for the first time this year, the Most Influential Researcher Award, Best Academic Performance Award and Dr. Suat GÜNSEL Science Award categories will also be presented. In the ceremony, based on 2020 and 2021 academic performance data, approximately 250 academics will be awarded in seven categories.

Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel emphasized that the scientific productivity of Near East University and that it is among the top 500 universities in the world in the global university rankings prepared by leading international higher education rating institutions such as Times Higher Education and AD Scientific Index, said, “We are leading the way to transform our country, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, into one of the most important science centers in the Mediterranean.”

Reminding that the number of Near East University researchers and academics in high-impact academic publications exceeded the 1,600 band in 2021, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “With this productivity, the Near East University alone was the source of 51 percent of the articles published by TRNC universities in 2021.”

Regarding the Near East University Science Awards, which will be given for the fifth time on June 20, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “To honor our scientists who have made the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Near East University a very important part of the international scientific world, and to encourage our young academics and researchers, Near East University Science Awards, which we present, will find their owners as the most important symbol of the value we place on scientific production.”
