Near East University Research Centre for Applied Linguistics has successfully completed its second year of its project “Building Bridges”

The project of Near East University Research Centre for Applied Linguistics (RCAL) Building Bridges: Teaching English to Diverse Groups has just completed its second year as the 2016-2017 Spring Semester ended.

According to the press info release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, final year students of Department of English Language Teaching shared their experience of teaching for a year with the other students undertaking their higher education at the same department.

Making a statement on the matter,Vice Head of the Department of English Language Teaching, Assist. Prof. Dr. Çise Çavuşoğlu, stated that the project was jointly realised by Near East University English Preparatory School and Cyprus Turkish Society for the Protection of Children. Providing further details, she stated that as part of the four year higher education program, the students had an applied teaching module and that final year students were given the opportunity to teach throughout their final year; enabling the Department to raise rather competent teachers for the future.

Moreover, it was stated that the students found the opportunity to practically experience classroom management and foreign language teaching techniques in authentic environments, which they later shared with the students studying at the Department of English Language Teaching. Additionally, it was stated that the students also found the chance to ask questions regarding their experience and that the last year students informed the younger students of the Department of the difficulties of teaching two different age groups and explained how they dealt with this difficulty.
