Celebrating the 101st anniversary of the “Great Offensive”, which made Turkey’s liberation struggle to result in a decisive victory, August 30 Victory Day was celebrated with ceremonies held in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The “International 30 August Symposium” organized by the Economic Development and Social Research Institute (IKSAD) for the fifth time this year was held in Ankara on 29-30 August. The symposium, which was open to the Great Offensive and 30 August themed works in all branches, was held with the participation of many scientists from 6 countries. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut from Near East University attended the symposium with a presentation titled “Turkish National Struggle and Atatürk in Turkish-Literary Books Published for Secondary Education in the TRNC”.


Literary texts have a very important role in the acquisition of national identity.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Yeniasır, emphasizing that literature and literary texts have a very important role in the acquisition of national identity, said, “With the paper we presented at the 5th International 30 August Symposium” we aimed to trace the reflections of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish liberation struggle in the textbooks.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burak Gökbulut, on the other hand, stated that the interest in history can be increased thanks to the texts chosen correctly by the educators in Turkish and literature classes. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökbulut said, “In the Turkish and literature books evaluated, information about Atatürk and the Turkish national struggle is not given only in texts and poems. It is aimed to teach students with activities such as writing, reading, speaking, interpretation and discussion, it is aimed to make them learn, love and feel Atatürk and the Turkish national struggle.”
