Near East University President of the Board of Trustees Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel accepted Mehmet Gürcenk, swimming coach of Doğukan Ulaç, the long distance swimmer of the Near East University, who became the champion of the Bosphorus Intercontinental Swimming Race, which is also considered as the "World's Best Open Water Swimming Organization" .

According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Near East University Head of Department of Health, Culture and Sports Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hakan Atamtürk was also present at the visit paid to the President of the Board of Trustees of NEU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel who congratulated Doğukan Ulaç on the success he achieved and thanked to Mehmet Gürcenk, coach of Doğukan Ulaç, and Doğukan Ulaç and his coach Mehmet Gürcenk expressed their gratitude to Assoc. Günsel said that Doğukan Ulaç, who started swimming atthe Near East University Olympic Pool at the age of four, is one of the examples that show where an individual can reach in swimming sports and how much he can push his borders.

Although we live in an island and the ratio of young population is quite high, we do not show sufficient interest for swimming and other sea sports, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günsel, and added "We will continue to take steps as the Near East University to develop swimming sports, increase the number of licensed swimmers and encourage young people to this sport. We are ready to offer our potentials in this way. It is my belief that Doğukan Ulaç, a national swimmer who stood out of theear East University, is going to be an example of these achievements and that he will have more success. "

Doğukan Ulaç stating that he started to learn swimming at the Near East Swimming Pool at a very early age and then was interest in the swimming sports, thanked the coaches and the family of Near East University who supported him in this way. As a Turkish Cypriot swimmer, Ulaç expressed his pride and happiness in achieving great success on behalf of the Near East University, "I began to swim, having great support from my parents at a young age. I believe that my achievements will continue. The next goal is to enter the national team of Turkey. In this way, I want to represent both the country and the Near East University in Europe.
