Near East University presented four articles at the Dermatogenetics Symposium with International Participation

Having been organized collaboratively by the Department of Medical Genetics and the Department of Dermatology of the Faculty of Medicine of Bursa Uludağ University the “1st Bursa International Genetics Days: Dermatogenetics Symposium”, was held at Almira Hotel in Bursa between the 09th and 11th of January, 2020. Academics from Near East University participated in this scientific event and made four presentations.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that Professor Doctor Gamze Mocan, Dean of NEU Faculty of Medicine, Associate Professor Doctor Mahmut Çerkez Ergören, lecturer at NEU Faculty of Medicine and Board Member of DESAM, Specialist Doctor Ö. Özden Yükselen, lecturer at NEU Faculty of Medicine, Gülten Tuncel, Research Assistant at DESAM, and Meryem Betmezoğlu, lecturer at NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, participated in the “1st Bursa International Genetics Days: Dermatogenetics Symposium” and represented Near East University successfully.

The symposium provided a scientific platform for 250 respectable scientists and academics from Turkey and all across the world to share valuable information regarding dermatogenetics. NEU Faculty of Medicine Dean Professor Gamze Mocan chaired session 1 as a moderator while Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez Ergören, faculty member at the Medical Biology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Near East University and the Board Member of the Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM), chaired the session 6 held in hall D.

Near East University academics left their marks on the symposium with a seminar and four oral presentations...
Specialist Dr. Özen Özden Yükselen, lecturer at the Department of Medical Pathology of the Faculty of Medicine made a presentation on her study titled "Chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma accompanied by malignant melanoma: A collision tumor case" and shared information regarding malignant melanoma and other malignancies observed to occur in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma. Gülten Tuncel, Research Assistant at the Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM), made two oral presentations and shared valuable information regarding her studies on "Identification of a new COMP gene variant as a possible cause of pseudoachondroplasia: The first case in Northern Cyprus" and "Estimation of the vitiligo patients' respond to the treatment with the approach of back propagation artificial neural networks". Meryem Betmezoğlu, lecturer at NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, made an oral presentation and shared information about the results of her study on "Estimation of the respond of the patients with psoriasis to the treatment with back propagation artificial neural network approach".

Besides, Associate Professor Doctor Mahmut Çerkez Ergören, faculty member at the Medical Biology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Near East University and the Board Member of the Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM), participated in the Workshop titled "Artificial Intelligence and Genetics" and gave a seminar on "Fuzzy Logic Approaches in Precision and Preventive Medicine".

Stating that the symposium was very successful and fruitful despite the fact that it was held for the first time, Associate Professor Doctor Mahmut Çerkez Ergören underlined that as Near East University they had adopted working in team spirit to realize studies providing novel contributions to medical and informatics literature. Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez Ergören extended his appreciations to the faculty members of the Department of Medical Genetics, the Department of Dermatology, and the Department of Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine of Bursa Uludağ University for their valuable efforts.

Besides, Professor Gamze Mocan, Dean of NEU Faculty of Medicine, stated that the symposium was very successful by going beyond the expectations with 11 panels, 91 seminars, a plenary, 15 presentations on rare cases, 62 oral and 31 poster presentations. Professor Mocan expressed her gratitude to the Symposium President Associate Professor Doctor Şehime Gülsün Temel and her all team, who had provided great contribution to the symposium to be successful and fruitful, for their invitation and hosting.
