Near East University has secured a place on the list of the world’s most influential scientists, compiled by Stanford University and Elsevier, with 24 of its academics, becoming the most represented university among institutions in the TRNC. Increasing the number of its academics on the list from 18 last year to 24, Near East University saw 22 of its faculty members included in the "annual" impact list and 11 in the "career-long" impact list. Near East University has further solidified its strong position in the international scientific community with this new achievement. In the latest results of the "World’s Most Influential Scientists" study, conducted by Stanford University using the Elsevier database, 24 academics from Near East University ranked within the top 2% globally. With this outcome, Near East University became the university with the highest number of academics on the list among TRNC institutions. Having been represented by 18 academics last year, Near East University increased this figure to 24, demonstrating its continued progress in scientific research and publication performance. The study, which focuses on the international research impact of scientists, is organized into two distinct categories: "career-long" and "annual." According to the latest results, 22 academics from Near East University were included on the annual scientific impact list, while 11 appeared on the career-long list. Counting academics present in both categories, Near East University achieved a total of 33 impact-based recognitions. The ranking, which was made by considering citations received by researchers' scientific publications, the international impact of their work, and various bibliometric indicators, is considered a key reference for evaluating research performance within the scientific community. The success achieved by Near East University in the latest results stands out not only due to the increase in the number of academics making the list but also because of the international impact of scientific studies conducted across diverse disciplines. Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer, Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman, Prof. Dr. Nadire Çavuş, Prof. Dr. Rahib Hidayat Abiyev, Prof. Dr. Aydın Hassani, Prof. Dr. Youssef Kassem, Prof. Dr. Yasir Waheed, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hijaz Ahmad, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlker Özşahin from Near East University demonstrated success in both categories by appearing on the lists for both career-long and annual scientific impact. Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış and Prof. Dr. Nesrin Hasırcı also featured on the career-long scientific impact list. Consequently, the number of Near East University academics in this category reached 11. In addition to these names, the annual scientific impact list included Prof. Dr. Evren Hınçal, Prof. Dr. Kamil Dimililer, Prof. Dr. Turgut Tursoy, Prof. Dr. Boran Şekeroğlu, Assoc. The success of these academics, who contribute to international literature through their research across various scientific disciplines, has also demonstrated the global dimensions of Near East University’s interdisciplinary research culture and scientific output capacity. TABLE Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, stated that the inclusion of 24 academics from Near East University in the list of the world’s most influential scientists, compiled by Stanford University, represents a significant milestone in the university’s scientific development. “It is a source of great pride for us that, after being represented by 18 academics in this important study last year, 24 of our academics have been recognized among the world’s most influential scientists this year." said Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, adding, “More importantly, the fact that our scientific achievements extend to an ever-widening group of academics each year is one of the most valuable outcomes of the research ecosystem we have established.” Emphasizing that Near East University places scientific output at the core of its institutional culture, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “A university’s true strength is measured by the global impact of the knowledge it produces. Our goal is not merely to rise in international rankings. It is to be a university that contributes to humanity’s collective body of knowledge, shapes scientific advancements, and transforms the knowledge it generates into societal benefit.” Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that Stanford University’s latest research findings demonstrate the progress in the university’s scientific performance through concrete data. "The fact that the number of our academics on the list has risen from 18 last year to 24 this year is highly significant in terms of showcasing the growth of our research capacity.", said Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ. "Having 24 of our academics ranked among the world’s most influential scientists highlights the continuity of our research culture and the international impact of our scientific output. In particular, the inclusion of 11 of our academics in the career-long list and 22 in the annual scientific impact list demonstrates the strength of both our long-standing academic expertise and our current research performance." Emphasizing the decisive role of research infrastructure, international collaborations, and interdisciplinary work in sustaining scientific success, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ added, "We attach great importance to ensuring that the research conducted across various fields at our university resonates within the international scientific community. While enhancing the facilities that support our researchers' scientific productivity, we also aim for our young academics to play a more active role in international research networks."
