Near East University Lifelong Education Center provided “Public Contact and Communication” training to police officers at the TRNC Police School

Near East University Lifelong Education Center (YABEM) continues its training that will contribute to the development of individuals and professional groups with its expert instructor staff and modern education technologies. YABEM, which provides free “Public Contact and Communication” training at the TRNC Police School, has carried out an important study on how police officers can establish healthy communication with the public.

At the program organized by YABEM, Near East University lecturer Assist. Prof. Dr. Tijen Zeybek shared important information throughout the training she gave regarding the trust-based relations between the police and citizens.

The police stand out as not only the law-enforcing force of a state, but also the face of the state that is in closest contact with the public and ensures the security of the society. Effective communication with the public plays a major role in helping the police force understand the needs of the society, gain their trust and provide their support. In this respect, the education provided by YABEM also has great meaning for the society and the contact between police department and civilians.

Emphasizing that the concept of lifelong education has a fundamental role in the professional and personal development of individuals, Near East University Lifelong Education Center Director Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Hürsen said, “Today, in an era where social dynamics are changing rapidly, the role of the police and society’s expectations from police are constantly evolving. In this process of change, effective communication skills and people-oriented approaches of police officers are critical for them to establish a trust-based relations with the society.”


“With the training we provided, we aimed to provide police officers with information and perspective on how to develop a trust-based and healthy police-citizen relationship.” said Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Hürsen and added; “Such events are extremely important in terms of strengthening the police force and its ties with the society. As Near East University, we will continue to develop collaborations in order to strengthen social harmony.”
