Near East University Jiu Jitsu Team makes history at the “London Winter International Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship” by winning 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals

Participating in the championship organised by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) titled as the “London Winter International Open Jiu Jitsu Championship”, the Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver and a bronze medal on the first day of the championship, followed by winning another bronze medal on the second day making a total achievement of 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the London Winter International Open Jiu Jitsu Championship was held in the capital city London, England and completed over two days. On the first day, the Head Coach of Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Diogo Moraes Azevedo and Selman Özcan were rewarded Gold medals; whereas Dr. Aziz Suat Günsel and Dr. Ulaş Yavuz achieved Silver medals, and finally Deniz Erdağ won a Bronze medal. On the second day, Şirvan Akdemir won a bronze medal.

NEU BJJ Team makes history with 2 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals…
It was revealed that the London Winter International Open Jiu Jitsu Championship was held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre and a high number of athletes participated in the event. On the first day of the event, the Head Coach of Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team, Diogo Moraes Azevedo, made a spectacular start and won the first Gold Medal of the day for Black Belt Adult Super Heavy Category. Furthermore, with Brown Belt Selman Özcan won a Gold Medal for the Master 2 Heavy Category. Moreover, competing as a Blue Belt, Dr. Aziz Suat Günsel won a Silver Medal at the Adult Ultra Heavy Category.

In addition to the above, another Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team member Dr. Ulaş Yavuz won a Silver Medal at the Blue Belt Master 3 Category. Also, Dr. Deniz Erdağ won a Bronze Medal for the Blue Belt Master 2 Middle Category. As for the second day of the Chmpionship, Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Team Member Şirvan Akdemir won a Bronze Medal at the White Belt Adult Middle Category.

Making a statement regarding the matter, Head Coach of Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team, Diogo Moraes Azevado, expressed that they had long been preparing for the London Winter International Open Jiu Jitsu Championship in a very disciplined manner. He added that all the members of the team had been putting in a lot of effort, both prior and during the Championship. Such that the members of the team had to compete against highly skilled athletes coming from all around the world. As a result, Head Coach of Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team, Diogo Moraes Azevado, proudly stated that their hard work had paid off bringing them outstanding success; 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals. Making further addition, Diogo Moraes Azevado stated that they were quite happy as the Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (NEUBJJ) Team made history. He pointed out that they were determined to make greater achievements in future championships to be participated in and expressed sincere gratitude to Near East University authorities for their full support along the way.
