Near East University ranked 139th worldwide in the “Young University Rankings 2024”, which lists the best universities under the age of 50 in the world by Times Higher Education. Near East University, which ranks first in TRNC, was also in the top 3 in Turkey along with Koç and Sabancı universities.
Times Higher Education, a London-based higher education rating agency, announced its “Young University Rankings 2024” research, which lists the best universities in the world under the age of 50. In the research, Times Higher Education assesses universities under the age of 50 amongst more than 12 thousand universities around the world every year, in accordance with 18 criteria. Near East University made great achievement by ranking as the 139th best young university in the world in the “Young University Rankings 2024”. With this result, Near East University, the best university in the TRNC, ranked third in Turkey after Koç University and Sabancı University.
In Times Higher Education’s ranking of the best young universities that focus on scientific research, the universities are assessed in accordance with 18 criteria under the main headings of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In order for a university to be assessed, it must have at least 1000 scientific articles published in journals indexed in the Elsevier Scopus database in the last five years. While the learning environment provided by the university is assessed in the teaching category, the number of studies carried out by the university in the field of research, the income and reputation generated by these studies are assessed. On the other hand, among the main evaluation criteria of the ranking, the number of citations showing the impact of the research includes the international outlook of faculty members, students and their research, and the transfer of knowledge from research to industry take place.

Near East University draws attention with the number of articles per faculty member reaching 3. Near East University, which alone produces approximately half of the articles published by TRNC universities, is known for turning many projects into products such as TRNC’s 100 percent electric car GÜNSEL, domestic PCR and Diagnostic Kits, protective nasal Spray Olirin, artificial intelligence-supported smart home and city systems, the artificial intelligence-based trainer AI Prof. Dux. Near East University, which started to give AI based lectures by breaking new ground in the world outside the USA, continues to embody its scientific productivity with the projects it carries out.
