The 17th European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ECSMGE 2019)) will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland from 1st to 6th of September 2019.  ECSMGE 2019 will be realized under the theme "Geotechnical Engineering, foundation of the future". The conference will provide a scientific platform for participants from all around the world to share their knowledge and experiences with their colleagues.

Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar, Director of Near East University Assessment Center of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the Chairman of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, has been attending the European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering consecutively since 2003.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that Professor Cavit Atalar would attend ECSMGE 2019 and present two articles that he had conducted together with Professor Braja M. Das from California State University, USA, Chittaranjan Patra, Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Ellen Adu Parkoh from Ghana, and Arif Özyankı from Near East University. Cavit Atalar will also chair a session.

ECSMGE 2019, which is the most important conference of Europe on soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, will provide a scientific platform for participants to present more than four hundred articles under five main themes: "Modeling and Experimental Evaluation of Geo-materials", "Geotechnical Structures and Soil Improvement", "Reducing the Hazards of Natural Disaster and Earthquake", "Preservation of the Environment, Water and Energy and Historical Heritage".

ECSMGE, which is the main European event under the aegis of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), provides platform for scientists, practitioners, and researchers from all research institutions, universities, consultant companies and governmental organizations involved in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Next ECSMGE will be in 2023. The venue of this big event, to which Istanbul is also a candidate city, will be determined via election at ECSMGE 2019.

Meetings will also be held for the 4th International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering...
Besides, meetings regarding the 5th International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering will be held with Turkish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (TSSMGE) and International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The International Conference on New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, which is organized collaboratively by Near East University and Turkish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering once in every four years, is hosted by Near East University under the honorary chair of the Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel and the aegis of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
