Near East University hosted the “Youth, Peace and Security” panel

Near East University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration hosted the panel titled “Youth, Peace and Security” and discussed the interests, contributions and effects of young people on peace and security issues. In the panel, suggestions on how the young generation can contribute to global peace and security issues, how they can recognize problems and how they can be involved in the solution processes were also discussed.

Speaking at the panel held with intense participation, Başkent University Department of Political Science and International Relations Lecturer Dr. Cihan Dizdaroğlu, referring to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2250 in 2015, stated that ensuring the participation of young people in peace processes and adopting inclusive policies that can contribute to reconciliation and lasting peace are important in terms of promoting international peace and security. Dr. Dizdaroğlu also underlined the roles played by young people in areas such as peace and security in the light of examples and data from the international system.

Near East University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Şerife Z. Eyüpoğlu stated that the students had the opportunity to discuss the events taking place in the international system from different perspectives with the “Youth, Peace and Security” panel that examined social issues. Prof. Dr. Şerife Z. Eyüpoğlu said, “We will increase the number of such events in order to raise awareness and be aware of them.”

Near East University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department of Political Science and Public Administration Head Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü also stated that students from many different geographies of the world, studying in disciplines such as Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration and Business, showed great interest and active participation in the panel. Prof. Dr. Nur Köprülü said, “With these panels, students studying at undergraduate and graduate levels enrich their academic perspectives by having the opportunity to ask questions and express their views on peace and security issues.”
