Participating in the 6th Information and R-D Days, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr.İrfan S. Günsel touched upon the crucial role of research and development studies based on innovative approaches and delivered information regarding NEU’s R&D and innovative studies and the electric car GÜNSEL which is the latest product of these studies.

As an invited speaker, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr.İrfan S. Günsel participated in the 6th Information and R-D Days that organized by Bursa Uludağ University. Themed on the "3rd Generation University" vision, the event brought Turkey's many notable scientists together and provided platform to exchange ideas regarding R&D studies. Addressing to the attending body, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr.İrfan S. Günsel delivered information concerning with NEU’s innovative and R&D studies and the electric car GÜNSEL which is the latest product of these studies.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan GÜNSEL: “Turkish Cypriots leave their mark on the continents….”

Delivering information about TRNC’s first domestic car GÜNSEL, which is the product of years lasting effort exerted by NEU Innovation and Information Technologies Center, R& D teams and the Department of Automotive Engineering, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr.İrfan S. Günsel centered his talk on the development of third generation universities and NEU’s objectives: “As known; the 3rd Generation University concept defines a model based on transforming all the scientific data relevant to academic studies, research and R&D activities of the universities into the benefit of the society. Since it is essential to take an active role in the exploitation of the knowledge that we create, we embrace the third generation university model. Since our establishment, as a university that has taken it as a mission to contribute to the development of our society, and beyond this, adopted it as a principle to work for a more livable world, we consider innovation as an integral part of our being. While taking all of our steps within this innovative approach and carrying out all our activities with this vision, we always aim to show the world what the Turkish Cypriots are capable to do. Our accomplishments always make a sound at international platforms. As Turkish Cypriots with islander identity, we have no shortage of design and manufacture power than that of in the continental world, on the contrary, we have the power and capacity to direct this process. We have more pluses than minuses. Our electric car GÜNSEL that we produced within the scope of putting energy efficiency first and achieving a pioneer role in clean energy for all, is the most striking and latest example of this.

As a result of our innovative works, we have produced the prototype of TRNC’s first domestic car GÜNSEL that is environmentally friendly, energy efficient and zero emission electric car. We have laid the foundation of the facilities to manufacture GÜNSEL. We will mass-produce this new generation car in a near future. 1000 car will be manufactured as the first step. We are fully aware that this step, which will forward us towards higher peaks, is also an awesome push towards making TRNC a country that manufactures, develops and exports automotive technologies. This sets a good example that Turkish Cypriots have achieved a position to leave their mark on the continents” said he.

Prof. Dr. Irfan Günsel ended his remarks: "Within the innovative approach and scope of the 3rd Generation University, we, as islanders, will continue to work with enthusiasm to leave our mark on the continents by designing and producing new products for the benefit of environment and mankind".
