Northern Cyprus Medical Students Association, which was established with the initiatives of Near East University Medical students Association, participated in the general assembly of the Turkish Medical Students Association 2017; that is the most comprehensive meeting of medical students.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the assembly that organised by Turkish Medical Students Association was hosted by Uludağ University Medical Students Association in September, 2017. Aiming to raise medical students’ awareness and to assist them in pursing their career, the Turkish Medical Students Association held various sessions, panels and workshops to provide a platform for medical students to share and exchange knowledge and to discuss relevant issues.

As part of the assembly workshops on the following were held: Human Rights Research Methods; Medical Education which does not cause inequalities nor cause alienation in health; Patient Contact with sign language; Project and initiatives; Simulation as part of medical education; Medicine and medical education practice in the war environment.

Northern Cyprus Medical Students Association was represented at the general assembly with a delegation of 8 people. Vice Head of Foreign Affairs of Near East University Medical Students Association, Arda Atamtürk, Director of Project Development of Northern Cyprus Medical Students Association, Fatma Elagöz, and Director of Human Rights and Peace of Near East University Medical Students Zeliha Kocaismail.

The sessions and the workshops have provided guidance to medical students’ future work...

It was pointed out that the sessions and workshops on ‘Human Rights’ and ‘Project and Initiatives’ provided useful information to the medical students and was of quality to shed light to their future work. Furthermore, sessions and workshops such as ‘Presidency Session’, ‘Defensiveness’, ‘project management’ and ‘rights and health of refugees’ provided the medical students with information that can contribute to their personal development and can raise awareness of collaborative work with the association.
