Near East University Founding Rector Dr. Suat İrfan Günsel’s mother, Havva Günsel, was sent off to her final resting place in Nicosia Cemetery after the ceremony held in front of the Near East University Hospital today.

The loss of Havva Günsel deeply saddened the Günsel Family, the Near East Enterprises community and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It was announced in the statements that “Havva Günsel, the eldest of the Günsel Family and the Near East Enterprises Community, who had taught the love of the country and family unity, and stood out as the greatest source of love and wisdom, passed away.”

The ceremony held today to bid farewell to Havva Günsel took place with the participation of the Günsel Family, President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Metin Feyzioğlu, as well as ministers, deputies, rectors, mayors, bureaucrats, academics, employees of the Near East Enterprises and many of her friends.

At the ceremony where the Günsel Family accepted condolences, Near East Enterprises Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel gave a farewell speech to his grandmother Havva Günsel on behalf of the Günsel Family, while on behalf of the Near East Family, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ made a speech.

After the ceremony, Havva Günsel was sent off to her final resting place in the Nicosia Cemetery following the noon prayer at the Near East University Masjid.
