Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine represented at European Community Summer School of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases

Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüban Göçmen, lecturer of Near East University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Department of Microbiology, attended the 18th European Community Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Summer School (ESCMID 2018) in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and made an oral presentation. In the summer school where the participants from the world's distinguished universities took part, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hüban Göçmen presented both the Near East University and the TRNC by making the oral presentation on "Diagnosis of Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius Group in Samples of Cats and Dogs and Bacteriological and Molecular Methods and Investigation of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius (MRSP)".


According to the information provided by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, in addition to specialist doctors, veterinarians, biologists, pharmacists, doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers working in the field of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases participated. In the study presented at the congress, ears and skin swab samples of cats and dogs were collected from 5 pilot veterinary clinics (Nicosia, Güzelyurt, Famagusta, Kyrenia and Near East Animal Hospital). Bacteriological isolation procedure was applied to the collected samples and bacteriological identification was performed with VITEK 2 Compact automated system. mecA gene resistance serological tests are being conducted with RT-PCR method to determine the level of resistance.
