Near East University Faculty of Engineering students are preparing to participate in TEKNOFEST, Turkey’s first and only aviation, space and technology festival, organized in partnership with many organizations that play a critical role in the development of national technology in Turkey. Near East University students, who will participate in the “Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition”, breaking new ground in the TRNC, continue their studies with great care. Aiming to increase interest in space technologies, the competition also aims to showcase the creativity and technical skills of university students.

Near East University Faculty of Engineering Electrical and Electronics Engineering undergraduate students, who are preparing to apply for the “Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition” to be held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, aim to take part in the competition with their “SCORPIUS NEU” team. The “SCORPIUS NEU” team, which continues its work with the support of Near East University Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Bülent Bilgehan and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Lecturer Özlem Sabuncu, consists of Near East University Electrical and Electronics Engineering undergraduate students Melisa Eskisağır, Talha Baysal, Ulya Yaman, Yasir Akpınar, Haytham Khalifah, İlke İleri, Fatih Emrem and Buğra Özdemir.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “We will continue to support our students, who I believe will achieve great success in the ‘Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition’ with the model satellite they have developed, in this project, as in every field.”
Reminding that Near East University has made its name among the top 300 universities in the world in the fields of “Physical Sciences”, “Computer Sciences” and “Engineering” in the “World Universities Field Ranking 2024” published by Times Higher Education last week, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “We ranked first among the Turkish universities in ‘Physical Sciences’ and in the top two in ‘Computer Sciences’ and ‘Engineering’ fields.”

Emphasizing that Near East University shares its competencies with the world through scientific projects and publications made by its competent academic staff, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “At the same time, with these skills that we transfer to our students, we encourage our students to research and develop projects, starting from the undergraduate level. The model satellite project carried out by our Faculty of Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering undergraduate students is one of the significant examples of this.” Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ also said, “We will continue to support our students, who I believe will achieve great success in the ‘Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition’ with the model satellite they have developed, as in every field.”

Near East University Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Dr. Bülent Bilgehan emphasized that his students, who are preparing to participate in the ‘Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition’, carried out all the processes themselves, from development to prototyping, using the competencies they acquired through the training they received in the “model satellite” project they are working on. Prof. Dr. Bilgehan said that the Science, Technology, Engineering Application and Research Center (BİLTEM), which continues its research studies within the faculty, provides all the support students need. Prof. Dr. Bülent Bilgehan said, “I congratulate our students, who I believe will achieve great success in the ‘Teknofest Türksat Model Satellite Competition’ by breaking new ground in the TRNC.”
