Near East University Faculty of Engineering 2019-2020 Fall Semester graduates received their diplomas

Near East University Faculty of Engineering 2019-2020 Fall Semester graduates received their diplomas with a ceremony held at the Grand Hall of Atatürk Cultural and Congress.

According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz, department heads, lecturers, students and their families attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony that started with the reading of the National Anthem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz, Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan, Saba Abdulbaset Elgammudi, valedictorian of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Engineering Department, Yaren Diner, valedictorian of Food Engineering Department and Tamuka Nigel Samuriwo salutatorian of the Faculty of Engineering and valedictorian of Electric and Electronic Engineering Department made a speech each.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz in his opening speech at the ceremony, addressed the young engineers and stated that the most important developments are taking place in the field of engineering today and advised the students to renew themselves constantly. Prof. Dr. Özsöz said, “My dear young engineers, you have successfully completed the difficult process of your education life. Looking back, you will see that you have been through a difficult education process. We have given you the key to a world that includes all the challenging missions you will encounter in your future career. The doors that you will open after that will only be realized by working hard. Especially developments in artificial intelligence and medicine will allow you to work in these areas. Do not be limited to your education life at the university, learn about current issues related to your profession. The opportunity to access information has greatly increased compared to the past. It is your duty to access information quickly and easily, and to increase research and development activities."

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan; “Our century is under the domination of information societies”
Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan in his opening remarks congratulated the graduates and stated that the engineering profession has a special place in society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan said, “You have reached this happy day by working hard in a disciplined manner at the Near East University, a well-established and big university that aims to train the generations that will build the society of the future. I congratulate you wholeheartedly. Engineers, like other professional groups, have a special place in society. In the age of information we live in, the attraction of the engineering profession, which is one of the driving forces of economic growth, is gradually increasing in terms of offering specific and science-based solutions for the happiness of humanity and the welfare of society. Our century is under the domination of the societies developed in terms of informatics and information. Therefore, it is inevitable to constantly learn and develop by learning in order to catch up with the age. As in all disciplines, the education process in the field of engineering is built on knowledge. ”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan said that they have the mission to train students to take important roles in the development of our country as engineers who produce technology, not transfer technology. Vice-Rector Tüzünkan said that they have adopted a creative and innovative research model and educate engineers who consider the place and importance of science in human life, and stand out as a researcher, questioner, productive, mind and science respectful, experienced in analytical and integrative thinking structure, and our education policy is based on to contribute to the development of the country and educate qualified engineers who will help our country to have a voice among the information societies.

"We are taking a step towards increasing the global recognition of our country in the field of science with the 4th Generation University Model"
Stating that they, as Near East University, have integrated their vision of education in the world focused on competition, science and technology, integrating their projects into the 4th Generation University Model, which has the mission to produce science for the society, spread their studies to other segments of the society and develop their projects in a way to contribute to the society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan stated that they have taken a step towards increasing the global recognition of our country in the field of science. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan also mentioned that as an academic institution, they are rapidly progressing to continue the studies on science, make international cooperation agreements, increase the number of patents and bring more qualified graduates to our country.

Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said: “As Near East University, which takes important steps in contributing to the science of the world while directing the science of the country with its studies on both scientific and social benefit production, we have started to produce advanced models of electric-powered cars in different branches of Engineering, design high capacity new car batteries which can also be applied in industry and medicine. We are working on intelligent robotic systems, especially on stem cell issues in the field of health sciences, personalized medicine/drug research, Cypriot genome research, nanotechnology, biotechnology, bioinformatics and cybersecurity of computer-informatics systems.”

Expressing that they are proud of their graduate students at the end of his words, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tüzünkan concluded his speech by saying, "We hope that your success will inspire our students who will graduate after you ... Every new success you will show in your working life as graduates of Near East University will make us happy and honor us"

Yaren Diner; “We have crowned this journey, throughout which we had worked hard, with graduation”
Speaking on behalf of Turkish-speaking students, Yaren Diner, the valedictorian of the Department of Food Engineering, said that they crowned the journey through which they worked hard and made sacrifices, with graduation. Diner said, “We worked hard as students, we studied hard and dedicated ourselves to our education. I would like to point out that the honor of diplomas we will receive today belongs not only to us but to our dear teachers for their guidance, our friends and solidarity among us, and our faithful families who trusted and support us. It is proud to stand here today."

After the speeches, graduates were presented their diplomas. The graduation ceremony ended with graduating students throwing their caps in the air.
