Near East University Faculty of Communication Department of Radio, Television and Cinema student Vasfi Kuni returned with an award from the “From Captivity to Courage Short Film Competition” with his short film “Spring that doesn’t come”

The short film titled “The Spring that doesn’t come” directed by Vasfi Kuni, a student of the Near East University Faculty of Communication, Radio, Television and Cinema, became one of the nine films that won awards in the “From Captivity to Courage Short Film Competition” organized in cooperation with TEMA, TERMOPET, MEDISEP, Turkish Bar Association, Climate Change Policy and Research Association and Lions Education and Service Foundation.

In the “From Captivity to Courage Short Film Competition”, in which more than 50 short films competed, the awards were given at the ceremony held at Hacettepe University. Directed by Vasfi Kuni, a student of the Near East University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, “Spring that doesn’t come,” won the Best Actor Award in the Drama Category with the impressive performance of the leading actor Osman Alkaş.

Ironically explains the changes due to climate change
Organized for the fifth time this year, the “From Captivity to Courage Short Film Competition” aims to convey current issues, which are problematic in society, through the eyes of university students and to raise awareness. The competition was held this year with the theme of climate change.

Directed by Vasfi Kuni, who was deemed worthy of an award by the competition jury, which included 15 important actors and filmmakers, the film “Spring that doesn’t come”, which is directed by Vasfi Kuni, deals with the changes in nature due to climate change with an ironic language.

Returning with an award from the “From Captivity to Courage” Short Film Competition, Vasfi Kuni will also compete in international festivals with his short film “Spring that doesn’t come.” Speaking at the award ceremony, Near East University Communication Faculty Radio, Television and Cinema Department student Vasfi Kuni returned with the award and said that he is proud to have successfully represented the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Near East University. Vasfi Kuni, who thanked the famous Turkish Cypriot actor Osman Alkaş for taking the leading role in his movie, and said that he will continue to represent his country and university in many festivals with new films, and thanked his teachers at the Near East University Communication Faculty Radio, Television and Cinema Department for their support.
