Near East University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema Student Vasfi Kuni received an award from RTÜK with his “Cyprus Street Flavors Documentary”!

The “Street Flavors Film Festival” award ceremony, organized with the contributions of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, in cooperation with the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), Aydın Adnan Menderes University and Erciyes University, was held at the Bornova Culture and Art Center.


In the festival, which took place with intense participation, the “Cyprus Street Flavors Documentary” shot by Vasfi Kuni, a student at the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at the Near East University Faculty of Communication, won the ‘Honorable Mention Special Award’ out of 9 awards. The Project Coordinator of the award-winning documentary was Ülkü Ateş, and the Project Consultant was Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Near East University.

The festival aimed to provide sectoral experience to students of the faculties of communication, fine arts and tourism, while also aiming to transfer cultural heritage to the future. As part of the festival, attention was drawn to the necessity of passing on street flavors, which are an important part of Turkish cuisine, to future generations.


The production stages of flavors specific to Cyprus were conveyed in detail!

In the documentary about the unique street flavors of Cyprus, the production stages of flavors specific to Cyprus such as filled, juicy pudding, boat cake and hellim pastry were conveyed in detail. The cultural importance of these flavors and stories about their recipes were also presented to the audience as part of the documentary through interviews with local masters. Various documentary productions about street flavors from many different regions of Turkey participated in the festival.
