Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özden Fuller, the Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture of NEU Faculty of Architecture, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wayne John Fuller from NEU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine represented Near East University at the 2nd International Conference on Agriculture, Forest, Food, Food Sciences and Technologies (ICAFOF 2018).
The 2nd International Conference on Agriculture, Forest, Food Sciences and Technologies (ICAFOF 2018) was held in Sheraton Cesme Hotel Resort & Spa, Çeşme-İzmir/ Turkey. The ICAFOF 2018 provided platform for scientists, engineers and faculty members from universities all around the world to present their current studies regarding agriculture, forest, food and veterinary. Many scientists, academic scholars, engineers, technologists, entrepreneurs and policy makers all around the world had opportunities not only to share and exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face but also to establish business or research relations and collaborations.
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press & Public Relations Office of Near East University Associate Professor Özge Özden Fuller and Associate Professor Wayne John Fuller represented Near East University with presentations at the ICAFOF 2018. Their presentations on "The biological control of pine processionary moth with insectivorous birds" and "The impact on biodiversity of the different agricultural practices in olive orchards" attracted great interest of the attending body.
Observations have been carried out for three years to determine the role of insectivorous birds in Controlling Pine Processionary Moth
For three years and with the support of TRNC Ministry of Forestry, Associate Professors Özge Özden Fuller and Wayne John Fuller from Near East University have carried out research studies on birds as predators in Natural biological control of the pine processionary moth which is a great threat for pine trees. Within the scope of the project, the reproduction rate of the Great tit (Parus Major) living either in young or mature forest habitats was observed and compared throughout two years. Consequently no significant difference observed. The outcomes of this part of the study on the great tit were shared at ICAFOF 2018 with a presentation titled as “A Comparison in the Breeding Success of a Forest Passerine (Parus Major) Between Young and Mature Forests”.
Underlining that the project was currently going on, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wayne Fuller stated that further analysis would be performed in consultation with TRNC Ministry of Forestry. He also extended his appreciations to the staff of the Forestry Ministry in recognition of their interest and contributions.
Near East University and University of Exeter Conducts Joint Project on Agricultural Practices in Olive Orchards...
Within the frame of the project, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özden Fuller and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wayne Fuller along with Professor Dave Hodgson from the University of Exeter carried out a study on Different Agricultural Practices in Orange Orchards and Their Impacts on Bio-diversity. The outcomes of the study were shared at ICAFOF 2018 with a presentation titled as “Bio-Diversity Analysis Regarding Different Agricultural Practices in Orange Orchards in the Mediterranean Region”.
