Near East University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reşat Volkan Günel elected as a member of International Space Law Institute

International Law Program Director Assoc. Dr. Reşat Volkan Günel, lecturer of Faculty of Law of the Near East University, was appointed as a member of the International Space Law Institute, which has played an important role in the development of law all over the world.

According to the press statement made by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günel, the only Turk in the International Space Law Institute, where only people who have proven their competence in space law have been accepted as members, was reported to be involved in the development of space law and in reports, declarations and proposals in current events.

Conducting studies in the field of space law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Günel published a book entitled "Space Mining in Terms of International Law". The book examines comparatively the principles that dominate space law in the framework of critical approach as well as examining the economic and political demands of the space mining enterprise in terms of its current status in the context of international law.

Last year, serving at the Leiden University Faculty of Law's Space Law Competition in Virtual Law trial, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Reşat Volkan Günel has also served in many commissions.

Established in 1960 as an independent international organization, the Institute has the status of official observer at the United Nations Space for Peaceful Uses Committee and has been organizing the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court competition since 1992.
