As part of the World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM 2018), which was declared by the American Society of Landscape Architects, Near East University Faculty of Architecture of Department of Landscape Architecture made a technical trip to Lefke.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Academic Members of the NEU Department of Landscaping Architecture and Architecture and students visited the Piri Mehmet Paşa Mosque, which dates to Umayyad in the 7th century and scrutinised the architectural structure of the mosque. Additionally, they examined the monumental oak tree that is next to the mosque, alongside the house of Mariam Gökçebağ. Furthermore, it was stated that the academic members examined rural features and informed the students that preservation of rural areas was significant as these places were natural heritages.

Visiting Mariam Gökçebağ’s house, who has devoted her life to phytotherapy and aromatherapy, students and academic members were shown the most common method, distillation, for producing essential oils nad on details of plants used in treatments. Mariam Gökçebağ further informed the visitors on plants which are used not only in landscape architecture but also in the field of health.

Academic Members of the NEU Department of Landscaping Architecture and Architecture then went to Baydar Garden Centre in Aydınköy to observe details on producing ornamental plants from Specialist Agricultural Engineer Konce Baydar and found the chance to learn different types and names of plants.
