The Near East University Women’s Basketball Team faced Beşiktaş for the Women’s Turkey Cup semi-final and defeated its rival by a net score of 75-66. The Near East University will play the final match with AGU at Bornova Atatürk Sport Saloon at 15:30 on Saturday 4 Match 2015.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, the match was the scene of breathtaking moments as the Near East University team players exhibited outstanding performances with tough defense in all zones and dominated all periods by accomplishing net scores of 22-20, 48-35, 65-49 and 75-66.

Both team started the match with a high tempo and mutual baskets. The fight of the two teams was the scene of exciting moments. Beşiktaş outscored 7-5 in the first two minutes. However, NEU’s versatile players picked themselves up and began to fightback with tough defense and domination in rebounds. The team pointers such as Olcay ÇAKIR and Quanitra HOLLINGWORTH began to get inside the paint and drive to the basket. Through a serial lead, the Near East University outscored 13-9 in the first 5 minutes. The first period in which both team experienced too many turnovers ended with the win of the Near East University 22-20.

The second period was the scene of a tough match. NEU players continued to dominate the match by fighting toe to toe in all zones and completed the first half by a net score of 48-35. The tough defense and strong team spirit of the Near East University was very striking at the third and final period of the match.NEU players outscored these periods 65-49 and 75-66 respectively and made it to the final victoriously.

NEU’s rival is AGU for Turkey Cup Final

The Near East University Women’s Basketball Team will face Bellona Abdullah Gül University for Turkey Cup final match that will be held at Bornova Atatürk Sport Saloon in Izmir at 15:30 on Saturday 4 March 2017. TRT Sports will broadcast the match live. Near East University will win the Turkey Cup, if it defeats AGU at the final match.

Courtney VANDERSLOOT was selected the Most Valuable Player

Courtney VANDERSLOOT, one of the world’s best point guards, was selected as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match. VANDERSLOOT played with 16 points and 7 assists.

Expressing his feelings after the match, Zafer KALAYCIOĞLU, the head coach of the Near East University Women’s Basketball Team, highlighted that they wanted to crown the Near East University with Turkey Cup.
