88 academicians and researchers are taking part in 31 projects to which the Near East University Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit has decided to provide financial support. The projects include many high-value projects, from new diagnostic kits developed against infectious diseases to mRNA vaccine studies, cancer studies and stem cell studies.

Near East University, which has transformed many scientific studies conducted with its qualified research staff into products, continues to provide financial support to its researchers for their projects. Near East University Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit decided to provide support to 31 of the projects applied in 2023. Budget approval was also received from the Near East University Board of Trustees for the projects, of which evaluation process was completed in 2.5 months, carried out by at least two referees, one of whom was from outside the university. Thus, the number of projects supported by the Near East University BAP Coordination Unit reached 262 in the last eight years.

Among the projects that Near East University has decided to support, which transforms scientific research into products needed by society with its University 4.0 vision, there are many subjects with high scientific value and output potential. 88 academicians and researchers are taking part in 31 projects to be supported.

Many projects, from cancer research to vaccine studies, are within the scope of support.

Among the 31 projects to be supported by the Near East University Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit, the development of new diagnostic kits to be used in the detection of infectious diseases, including the field of veterinary medicine, mRNA vaccine studies, planning of new scientific approaches to vascular and endothelial functional diseases, newly synthesized products, activity analyses, development of experimental animal and in vitro innovative models, cancer studies including preimplantation embryos, stem cell studies and studies on dental implants take part. In addition, development of materials for health education, food pathogens, prebiotic strain bank and analysis of chemicals in stored food samples are among the other research topics that will be supported. The projects, in which 88 academicians took part, also stand out with their multidisciplinary aspect, in which scientists from different fields work together.

The scientific outputs of the projects to be carried out will be shared with the scientific world.

The results of the research projects to be carried out by Near East University researchers with the financial support of the Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Coordination Unit will be shared with the scientific world through articles to be published in high-impact scientific journals. Near East University, of which number of articles published in 2023 exceeded 1,760, alone produced approximately half of the scientific publications produced by the universities of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In addition to transforming the supported projects into products that will meet society’s needs, the projects will also play an important role in expanding the TRNC’s contribution to the world of science with the scientific articles.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: “As the Board of Trustees of Near East University, we will continue to support our researchers and support them with all our means.”

Emphasizing that Near East University acts with the aim of producing social benefit by transforming scientific research into products, Near East Enterprises Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “We have provided financial support to 262 projects of our researchers since 2016. We continue to fulfill our mission by providing the necessary environment for our scientists with the support we provide in every aspect.”

Drawing attention to the nature of the supported projects, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “The 31 projects we support will have important results, especially in the fields of health and engineering. These projects, which cover a wide range of areas from cancer research to vaccine studies, will make a great contribution to world science.” Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “As the Board of Trustees of Near East University, we will continue to support our researchers and support them with all our means. I wish all academics success in their studies.”
