Near East University Cooperation Project which will make a contribution to children’s education

-Near East University is cooperating with Athabasca University through a project involving children’s educating.

Functioning under the body of Centre of Excellence of Near East University, Communal Research and Development Centre has initiated cooperation with Athabasca University, NSERC/iCORE/Xerox/Markin Industrial Research Chair in Adaptivity and Personalization in Informatics, on a project involving gaming and peace education.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, NEU is cooperating with Athabasca University, on a project involving gaming for peace education. The cooperating team of Near East University was expressed to be academic members of Atatürk Faculty of Education Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay and PhD student Sabri Sasi, Academic Member of NEU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Assit. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Hacı and PhD student Derviş Kayımbaşıoğlu; Near East Junior College English Teacher Aliye Kemal. On the other hand, it was stated that Prof. Kinshuk and Prof. Maiga Chang from Athabasca University would be cooperating.

The aim of the project is to reinforce peace...

It was emphasised that the aim of the project was to reinforce the concept of peace in children in preschool via mobile learning and gaming; spread the notion and value given to peace in the process of education and thus provide an exemplary model. Moreover, it was pointed out that the project was currently at its application phase and that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zehra Altınay and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fahriye Altınay would both be taking part within the international cooperation team of Athabasca University.

Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı: “The cooperation we have initiated with Athabasca University will play a significant role in propagation of the value given to peace!”

Making a statement regarding the matter, Prof. Dr. Nedime Serakıncı stated that peace was a value which needed to be nurtured particularly in children and added that as the Communal Research and Development Centre, via Centre of Excellence, they desired to take part in all types of projects which were surely to make a contribution to the community. Furthermore, she emphasised that cooperation with Athabasca University on a concept such as peace was highly essential as this would trigger a path of solution to issues where there are conflicts. She ended her words by emphasising strong belief on the significance of integrating the value of peace within education and that they would be continuing to work on towards this goal.
