In the online workshop held by the Near East University Center of Excellence, 25 research and application center executives affiliated to the Center of Excellence came together and discussed the subject of science and excellence. In the workshop, Near East University’s goal of excellence in science and the studies to be carried out were commented on.

Making the opening speech of the event, Vice-Rector of Near East University and President of the Center of Excellence Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized the importance of research and application centers in the academic efficiency and success of universities.

Near East University Center of Excellence Executive Board members, NERITA President Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören, Near East University Faculty of Medicine Head of Radiology Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özüm Tunçyürek, member of DESAM Artificial Intelligence Research Group in Medicine Gürkan Ünsan and NERITA Senior Technology Transfer Specialist Şefik Emre Coşkun also gave speeches on excellence in science.

Scientific outputs should be brought to the society
Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören, who started his speech with the definition of the information triangle, explained the need for different centers and units to work in cooperation for a stronger ecosystem with examples from the world. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özüm Tunçyürek, on the other hand, quoted the definition of science and the criteria and stages to be followed for excellence in science, together with quotations from words of well-known scientists. Explaining how students can be included in the processes of scientific research and innovations, Dr. Gürkan Ünsal also discussed the developments in the Turkish scientific world. Şefik Emre Coşkun, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of bringing together the way leading to the production of the product and scientific outputs after the idea of establishing the business.

Research centers to collaborate
In the second part of the workshop, SWOT analysis and strategy studies were carried out in three main groups. In the workshop, the points to be developed at the research centers, national and international working areas, strengths, and thematic areas of future studies were discussed. At the end of the workshop, it was agreed that research centers should carry out joint studies, emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies in today’s world.
