Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head Coach Diogo Moraes Azevedo returned from Rome with two European Championships

Diogo Moraes Azevedo, who became the European Champion in the “No-Gi Super Heavy” and “Open Super Heavy” categories at the Jiu Jitsu championship held in Rome, Italy, visited the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East Enterprises, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, with his medals.

Near East University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Head Coach Diogo Moraes Azevedo became the European Champion in the “European No-Gi Super Heavy Champion 2024” and “Open Super Heavy 2024” tournaments organized by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) in Rome, Italy.

Near East Sports Tower Jiu Jitsu Trainer and athlete Diogo Moraes Azevedo had achieved significant success in previous years. Moraes, who came third in Europe in the tournament held in Rome last year, became European Champion in The European Masters tournament held in Barcelona in 2022. He won the World Champion title by defeating the same year’s European Champion Elgar Rafigaev in the ACBJJ World Open Brazilian Championship held in Moscow in 2018.

The successful athlete, who carries out training for the tournaments he participates in at the Near East University Sports Tower, also gives “Brazilian Jiu Jitsu” training here every weekday. Diogo Moraes Azevedo, who visited the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, with the two European Championship medals he won in Rome, thanked Near East University for their support.

Reminding that Near East University became European champions by winning the FIBA ​​Women’s EuroCup in 2017 with its women’s basketball team, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said that in 2018, Near East University Robotics Football Team NEUIslanders achieved a great success in the RoboCup 2018 Inter-Robot Football World Cup held in Montreal, Canada and became the World Champion.
