At the first qualifying round for Eurocup, Near East University Women’s Basketball Team faced İstanbul University at Caferağa Sports Hall in İstanbul and defeated its rival overwhelmingly by a net score of 82-53. With this lopsided victory, the Near East University gained a great leverage for the second round.

According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, beginning the match with a high tempo and effective zone press, Near East University Women’s Basketball Team got an edge over its opponent and completed the first period overwhelmingly by a net score 20-8. Beginning the second period without downing the tempo and press, Near East University outscored and completed the first half by a net score of 42-13.

During the first half, the long range shooters and three pointers of the Near East University scored three points out of three shoots, while İstanbul University scored 6 points out of 18 shoots. NEU’s versatile players got into the paint and drove to the basket with 19/32 two point shots while İstanbul University played with 5/36 two point shots. NEU scored 3/5 foul shots while İstanbul University had no foul shots.

During the third period, with its versatile players and long range shooters Near East University outscored up to 38 points and completed the third period by a net score of 66-33. The Near East University kept dominating the match during the last period as well. With the final whistle and a net score of 82-53, NEU left the court victoriously as the winner of the first qualifying round of Eurocup.

The rematch between two teams will be played on Thursday October 13, 2016. Considering the results of two qualifying rounds, the team that scores more than its opponent in total will be qualified to compete in Group D of Eurocup.
