In 2023, Near East University stood out as the source of 48.3 percent of the articles published by the TRNC universities with 1740 articles published in the world’s respected scientific journals. Near East University achieved an average of 2.86 articles per faculty member with the articles published in high-impact scientific journals scanned in Web of Science and Scopus.

Looking at the TRNC as a whole, as of February 6, 2024, the number of scientific articles published by all universities in 2023 was 3,606. Near East University, which is by far the best university in the TRNC in scientific productivity with 1740 articles, has produced almost half of the total articles published. The number of articles of the second-ranked university was 717, while the third-ranked university produced 520 scientific articles in the same period. With the update of publication statistics in the coming days, the number of articles of Near East University is expected to be in the 1750-2000 band.

Emphasizing that the production of qualified scientific articles is one of the main indicators of being a university, Near East Enterprises Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “The productivity indicated by the number of articles signed by our scientists is also a very important indicator of our contribution to the scientific and social progress of our country.”

Reminding that Near East University is listed among the best universities in the world by many international higher education rating organizations, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “With our scientific productivity, we were listed as one of the top 10 universities and one of the best two foundation universities among Turkey’s universities by METU URAP in December 2023.”

Emphasizing that Near East University acts with the vision of transforming its scientific production capacity into products and serving the society, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “GÜNSEL, which is the TRNC’s local and national and 100 percent electric car, is one of the first examples in the world where artificial intelligence is actively used in the field of education. Many of the improvements we have patented, including the PCR kits and AI Prof. DUX we have developed, are a result of this vision. “I congratulate our academics who have the biggest share in this success with their scientific studies carried out with determination.”

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ emphasized that scientific studies support the progress and innovation of societies by contributing to the development of new knowledge and discoveries. “Our joint projects that we carry out in cooperation with many important institutions of the world, our research centers that continue their studies with a multidisciplinary approach, our research and projects that we carry out with a vision that integrates innovative technologies into traditional fields, have a decisive role in this success we have achieved,” said Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ, and added; “We present the outputs of our studies to the use of humanity through scientific articles, most of which we publish in scientific journals with Q1 and Q2 impact levels.”
