Near East University adds another significant peer-reviewed Journal to the Science and Academic World

The first issue of the Near East University Faculty of Architecture Journal has been published by Near East University Faculty of Architecture aiming to publish articles covering architecture, interior design, urban planning and design, landscape planning and design.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the journal will be published twice a year, September and March, in the form of print and e-journal. It was announced that the first issue of the e-journal can be accessed via dergi.neu.edu.tr.

Sustainability Theme was focused on in the First Issue of the Journal …
The Editor in Chief of the journal is Dean of Faculty of Architecture of Near East University Prof. Dr. Zeynep Onur and the Vice Editor is Assoc. Prof Dr Buket Asilsoy; and the theme of the first issue of the journal is said to be “sustainability”. This theme was said to be chosen due to a need to focus architecture as a means to seek solutions to environmental issues, architect in charge of planning and design processes and important responsibilities of planners and designers.

The first issue includes articles by:


  1. Çimen Özburak titled as “The Concept of Sustainable Architecture in Preschool Period: Built Environment Education”,

  2. Gökhan Özdemir titled as “Restructuring Local Governments in terms of Sustainability in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”,

  3. Çilen Erçin titled as “The Place of Nicosia in Medieval City Fiction”,

  4. Hakan Sağlam titled as “Reinventing the wheel: Housing Architecture of Lower Income Group”,

  5. İmren Duman and Buket Asilsoy titled as “The Effect of Universal Design on Sustainability of Urban Space: Barış Manço Park”.

Original Scientific Articles will be included…
Making a statement on the matter, Dean of Faculty of Architecture of Near East University Prof. Dr. Zeynep Onur stated that the journal will comprise issues on architecture, interior design, urban planning and design, landscape planning and design. Additionally, it will include original scientific articles on history, sociology, art history, ecology, geography and archaeology, and semiotics will be included in the analysis of the concept of city. Furthermre, Prof. Dr. Zeynep Onur stated that research in the fields of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture; and therefore, articles that contribute to science and universal solutions with original perspectives on the problems in related subjects will be offered via this journal.
