Near East TEKNOFEST Champions visited President Ersin Tatar and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri

Near East University’s Heavy Metal Team, which won first place in the Research Project Competition at TEKNOFEST, and the EcOceanX Team, which won the Prestige Award in the Research Project Competition in the Environment and Energy Category, visited President Ersin Tatar and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, His Excellency Ali Murat Başçeri in their offices.

The Near East team, which won two championships by competing with 5 projects in the TEKNOFEST TRNC 2025 finals, visited President Ersin Tatar and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri at their offices with their awards. Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Near East University Technology Transfer Office President and TEKNOFEST Academic Coordinator Prof. Dr. Murat Özgören, the Near East University champion teams accompanied by Şefik Emre Coşkun and Özer Turan, who carried out the institutional coordination during TEKNOFEST, also provided information about their projects.

As a result of the eliminations made in TEKNOFEST TRNC 2025, where 15,750 teams and 47,865 competitors applied, only 268 teams were able to reach the final stage. In TEKNOFEST, where 20 teams from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus made it to the finals, Near East University was the university with the most representation with 4 projects, and Near East College competed with 1 project. Thus, approximately one third of the 103 finalists representing Cyprus in TEKNOFEST were from the Near East. In the finals, Near East University’s Heavy Metal Team came first in the Agriculture Category of the Research Project Competition, while the EcOceanX Team won the Prestige Award in the Environment and Energy Category of the Research Project Competition.

TRNC completed TEKNOFEST with flying colors!

Receiving the TEKNOFEST Champions at his office, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar said that the country had come out of a very comprehensive and prestigious event like TEKNOFEST with flying colors and said, “The fact that 225 thousand people visited TEKNOFEST between May 1-4 is an indication of this success.” Emphasizing that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, an island of education, can also gain an important place in the world in the fields of software and informatics, President Tatar said, “The successes achieved by Near East University in TEKNOFEST also give us hope for this vision to come to life. I congratulate the Near East Family.”

The Republic of Turkey Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri also congratulated the Near East University’s TEKNOFEST champion teams one by one and received information about the projects. Başçeri, who touched upon the importance of the achievements, emphasized that they will always support the development of new projects and their transformation into production with the strong wind created by TEKNOFEST.

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ thanked President Ersin Tatar and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri for their acceptance and said, “We are happy to represent our university and our country in the best way at TEKNOFEST, where we are also academic stakeholders.” Reminding that the first stage of the TEKNOFEST Drone Championship was held on the Near East University campus, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “As Near East University, we were the only Cyprus university that applied to TEKNOFEST with the most projects, competed in the finals and took the podium by winning two championships. I congratulate all academics and students who contributed to this success. We will always continue to support our students on their journey to produce the technologies of the future. This success is not only the pride of our university but also of our country.”
