The Turkish National Team, currently in Kyrenia preparing for the International Air Badminton Championship to be held in Bulgaria, visited Near East University. The national team met with young athletes at the Cyprus Car Museum and shared their experiences. Near East College students Nehir Deniz and Zarif Dayı will also compete in the championship wearing the Turkish National Team uniform.
The Turkish Senior Air Badminton National Team, preparing for the International Air Badminton Championship to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, between July 24-26, 2026, has been continuing its training camp in Kyrenia. The national team delegation, which came to Cyprus for a training camp between July 14-23, also visited Near East University. The national athletes visited the Cyprus Car Museum on the Near East University campus and then met with badminton players in the junior categories at a special event held at The Kaffo on campus, sharing their experiences.
The event, which brings together the Turkish and TRNC national teams in the same training camp, includes eight athletes from the Turkish Senior Air Badminton National Team and eight athletes from the TRNC Air Badminton National Team. Turkish National Team Coach İsmail Küçük and Turkish Air Badminton Manager and TRNC Badminton Federation President Fırat Deniz are also accompanying the athletes during the camp.
Following the training camp, the Turkish Senior Air Badminton National Team will compete in the International Air Badminton Championship to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, between July 24-26. The Turkish men’s team includes Arda Öz, Burak Küçük, Burak Çeşitcioğlu, and Mete Kaan Uçan; while the women’s team will include Nehir Deniz and Zarif Dayı, both students from Near East College in the TRNC and national athletes, as well as Firdevs Karaaslan and Sare Ece Başak. The inclusion of Near East College students Nehir Deniz and Zarif Dayı in the Turkish National Team squad once again demonstrates that the investments of Near East University and Near East College in sports and athlete development are yielding international successes.

National athletes met with young badminton players in the youth categories at a special event held at The Kaffo on campus, sharing their experiences. During the meeting, which was part of the camp program, the national athletes shared their career journeys, international tournament experiences, and knowledge about high-level sportsmanship with the young badminton players. In a friendly atmosphere, the athletes answered the young people’s questions and offered advice on international sports careers.
