In the first 10 days of February, 50 of the 75 cases diagnosed with COVID-19 at the Near East University Hospital have mutations!
Near East University announced the distribution of the mutated virus of the cases diagnosed with COVID-19 in the COVID-19 PCR Diagnostic Laboratory of the DESAM Research Institute between January 1 and February 10, 2021. Accordingly, 14 of the 31 COVID-19 cases diagnosed in January 2021 were found to be infected with the B117 variant called the UK mutation. Of the 75 cases diagnosed with COVID-19 in the first 10 days of February, 50 of them have mutated viruses.

According to the results of the study, all 17 cases that were diagnosed positively at Near East University Hospital in November and December 2020 were caused by the mutation-free variant of SARS-CoV-2. In January 2021, the mutated B117 variant of the virus began to spread in the TRNC. The spread of the mutated virus continued to increase in February.

The number of mutated cases is increasing
In the first 10 days of February, the number of positive cases diagnosed by the DESAM Research Institute COVID-19 PCR Diagnostic Laboratory of Near East University increased to 75. It was determined that 66 percent of these cases (50 cases) were infected with the mutated virus. The increase in the number of cases in just 10 days is striking in terms of showing the rate of spread of the mutated virus.

Last week, the Near East University announced that the increase in COVID-19 cases in our country was caused by the B117 variant of SARS-CoV-2, called the UK mutation. Then the results of tests carried out by the TRNC Ministry of Health in Turkey had also confirmed the diagnosis of Near East University.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: "Our people should continue to pay attention to social distance, masks and hygiene measures with much greater care."
Stating that they have completed the study in which they analyzed the spread of the mutated variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in TRNC, DESAM Research Institute Director Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, "We found at the Near East University Hospital that 50 of the 75 cases diagnosed positively in the first 10 days of February were infected with the mutated virus." Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said that the mutated virus, which was first seen in January, spread much faster in February.

Stating that the new variant spreads faster, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, "Our people should pursue social distance, masks and hygiene measures with much greater care."
