Journalists of the future observed the media sector closely throughout the “Media Tour” organized by the Near East University Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism!

Near East University Faculty of Communication Department of Journalism introduced the media industry more closely to all its students studying journalism along with the “Media Tour” event it organized. Students visited Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK), Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation (BRTK) and Independent Media Group and gained an idea about the media sector and its functioning.

Students meet many experts in their fields; Turkish Agency Cyprus General Manager Fehmi Gürdallı, Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation Broadcast Planning and Supervision Manager Fezile Aziz, BRT International Programmer Can Gazi, TV News Manager Ayşe Denizoğlu and Independent Newspaper News Manager Ergül Ernur and learned about many topics by asking questions they were curious about.

Newsrooms and studios were visited
At the first stop of the “Media Tour” event of Near East University Faculty of Communication Department of Journalism students, they were informed about the agency’s working principles, working methods and the working system of agency journalism by Turkish Agency Cyprus General Manager Fehmi Gürdallı. Fehmi Gürdallı talked about the system of state institutions and the systems of following the current news and underlined that international ethical values are strictly adhered to in the news preparation and publishing processes.

Students who making their second visit to Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation, obtained information about BRTK news center, BRTK television and radio studios. Speaking during the visit to BRTK television news center, TV News Manager Ayşe Denizoğlu emphasized that BRT, as a public broadcasting institution, has a broadcast policy based on protecting and promoting the interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Students also got an idea about digital publishing
In the third and last part of the event, students visited the Independent Media Group, which continues its activities in the field of digital media.

Stating that they operate in the digital field with a team mostly coming from traditional newspapers, Independent Newspaper News Manager Ergül Ernur stated that there is an internet newspaper and web TV within the organization. Touching on the advantages and disadvantages of internet publishing, Ergül Ernur stated that they attach importance to the production of special content and meet the readers with both current and special news content.
